Born in England and grew up in Brisbane

I love showing off my backyard to visitors. The team of guides we have are all amazing, and each brings their own passion and expertise to work which w all regularly learn from.

It’s an amazing playground and is often overlooked. A short drive from the beach, and suddenly you are surrounded by rainforest, rivers and incredible waterfalls.

It’s hard to pick just one, but if I must I gotta admit, it’s great seen a wallaby in the wild (might also have something to do being an Aussie Ruby fan)

Don’t be afraid of the rain forest. It’s truly beautiful and should be enjoyed by everyone photos and videos quite often don’t do it justice, so just be in the moment and breathe in the beauty.

It’s a few years ago, but I introduced a years student from USA to the Australian stock whip. He loved it immediately and was a natural. Years later, I learned that he kept it up back home and now computes in whip cracking compettions, and ins may if them.

Sydney, Sydney, but over half my life in the Gold Coast.

The fact that I get to repeatedly share our wonderful destinations with visitors, over and over again.

Everything, the way it can change with the weather and still be exhilarating.

The Yowie, I just haven’t seen him yet.

Embrace the whole experience, and make sure you come back.

My third tour ever was a private tour, and the guests were split. Men one bus, women my bus, and they were all from Kuwait. We had a ball, laughing, gasping, they even all sung a song for me leaving O’Reillys, and one of the older women told me they were singing about how good a bus driver I was. I had to believe her, they were all smiling as they sang, and they left a lobster on my clipboard at drop off, totally unexpected but I took it as a compliment that they did have a great day.

The Freedom in my profession allows me to bring smiles to faces, showcasing wildlife, and narrating the rich stories of the bush.

Born in Brisbane and grew upon Tamborine and Gold Coast Hinterland

The freedom in my job. Getting to put smiles on peoples faces. Showing them the wildlife and telling stories about the bush.

The abundance of different hikes, rockpools  and beautiful locations

The allure of National Parks, rainforests, diverse wildlife, favorable climate, breathtaking waterfalls, genuine people, and picturesque villages captivates my heart. It’s a place that embodies everything I cherish, and the privilege of working in such a stunning environment amplifies my appreciation for this unique corner of the world.

Born in Manly, Sydney Northern Beaches! Grew up at Collaroy Plateau on the insular peninsular but I escaped, unlike most! Lived on the Northern Beaches until 2003. Moved to Southern Highlands, NSW for about 4.5 years then back to Collaroy Plateau for 2 years. Next 2.5 years spent out in regional NSW, Molong, northwest of Orange in the Central Tablelands. Then onto East Ballina, Far North Coast New South Wales for 6 years. Have lived in the GC Hinterland Mount Nathan for 6 years.

Well I choose to live there so that speaks volumes! Love the open spaces, less people, less traffic, more space. The National Parks, Rainforfests, wildlife, climate, waterfalls, genuine people and the beautiful villages! Pretty much everything! I also love that I get to work there too.

Definitely the leaf tail gecko’s take first place for me. Might get one as a pet one of these days. Any and all snakes are a very close second but only in second place because I have three pet snakes at home. Third place would be the Pademelon, closely tied with the Pretty Face Wallaby! I’m also fascinated with the trapdoor and tree dwelling funnel web spiders. My least favourite rainforest creatures are the humans!

Wear closed footwear. Trust your guide, they know what they’re doing and will keep you safe. Be open minded and open to new experiences. Ask lots of questions, we love to share our knowledge! Request a tour with Alex, you’ll have a lot of fun!

When I got to hand feed the male and female Regent Bower Birds up at Lamington National Park. Rescuing the Coastal Carpet Python off the road is a close second. The teamwork and camaraderie between guides, reservations staff and AQD is wonderful and we have an amazing Manager who listens and truly cares about his staff.

Meeting wonderful people globally, ensuring memorable holidays, collaborating with fantastic colleagues, and part of a professional organization.

Dalby QLD – a happy childhood in a country town of 10,000 people  and I moved to Gold Coast when I was 14

Everything! From meeting lovely people from all around the world and helping them have a memorable holiday to working with great colleagues and very professional organisation.

I love the beauty of nature. I believe it increases your happiness with every visit. Everything from serenity of a rainforest when you can only hear birds singing, a mountain stream trickling bye, a beam of sunlight sneaking through a beautiful green canopy, or a photo worthy view or waterfall, that only nature could provide.

I love them all of course, but it’s a tie for first place between the whipcord and the southern leaf-tailed gecko.

The highlights are awe inspiring, but enjoy each and every moment of your day in these beautiful places.

Most of days, particularly when I notice that wonderful moment when people realise that the tour is even they imagined.

Loving Leading people to beloved destinations and unveiling these special spots to them and creating lasting memories through shared adventures.

Johannesburg, South Africa

Small groups of people on interesting tours.

Beautiful mountain scenery, contrast to the coast, cooler than the coast and lots of wildlife plus no traffic lights.

Lot of cute animals, but my favourite is probably the carpet python. Harmless to us and tolerates us being around.

Relax! Enjoy being out of the city and in an ancient rainforest with it’s fascinating flora and fauna.

Every day I meet fascinating people from around the world and take them to an incredibly beautiful part of the world.

I am really passionate about showing and teaching people things that they would never normally get to experience and most of all, to bring joy to all.

I have worked, travelled and lived in many countries of the world, most notably throughout the UK, USA, and most recently living in Greece running my own tour business there for much of the last 10 years, before moving to the Gold Coast, Queensland to reunite with my family some months ago.

As someone who spent most of my childhood living on a farm and have always enjoyed adventure, nature and wildlife, and also having been a teacher for much of my life, I love that I get to work for Southern Cross Tours because I get to share my passion for the nature around us and share my knowledge with people from all over the world! It is also a truly unique company who takes a lot of care to hire the right people for each job and I’m lucky enough to have the most absolutely wonderful team of people to work with, both as other guides, in reservations and support and in management – one big skill-filled, supportive and fun family.

Also, I love that I get to call Nature my office and being in the forests and helping people enjoy and learn about the animals and trees and all the natural wonders and history around us that most people simply don’t know, and it gives them a chance to do it in a safe, encouraging and exciting way :)

I adore the Hinterland, our best theme park of the Gold Coast, because no matter what the weather or season, it is a truly special and wonderous place, full of life, and the feeling of community and truly healthy living. Nature’s glory, in full spectrum!

I love all the creatures and animals that we get to see and share the experience with our guests each tour, but my favourite on the night tour are the incredible glowworms of course, and the leaf-tailed ghecko, and on the day tours, I get a childish excitement around alpacas!

The best tip I have for enjoying the rainforest, is to be open-minded, open-hearted and feel it as your inner child to truly experience it!  Oh, and please wear closed walking shoes ..!

My favourite experience so far on tour was taking a 7 Yr old girl by the hand and skipping down the path through Springbrook National park National Bridge section to a few little spots where I showed her some extra special little things while the adults were still taking photos of a view.  She had been studying rainforests at school and brought a notepad and and pen, so I wanted to give her a really wonderful experience, and it was a whole lot of fun!!  Lots of info to take back to school and share, with hopefully some great memories :)

Every day, meeting new people allows me to share the beauty and culture of my home, enriching both our lives through connection.

Born and grew up in Tasmania which is still one of my favourite places in the world. Moved to the Gold Coast 14 years ago and have spent time recently living in Port Douglas on the fringe of the Daintree Rainforest. Also spent time living in Brazil and visiting the Amazon Rainforest.

Getting to meet new people every day and show them the small part of the world I call home.

I love the fact you can have such pristine beauty only minutes away from the Gold Coast. It’s my place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Tough one as there are so many! Amazon Rainforest – Capybara. Daintree Rainforest – Cassowary. Hinterland Rainforest – Alberts Lyrebird.

Take a deep breath in the clean fresh air and just go with the moment. It’s the rain forest after all so if it rains enjoy getting wet in the spectacular beauty.

My best experience happens most days where people overcome any fears or hesitations they have and enjoy the spectacular rainforest “at night”.
